Diapers sit against your baby's skin for hours at a time. We think you should know exactly what those layers are made of.
A 2025 study detected phthalates in disposable diapers and identified skin contact as a potential exposure pathway for infants. Several urinary phthalate markers were associated with a marker of oxidative DNA damage.
The study raises important questions about materials against babies' skin. It does not establish that diapers caused the observed damage.
We didn't want to wait to rethink those layers. We chose bamboo viscose instead of plastic for both the inner and outer lining.

I've spent nearly 15 years tackling plastic pollution all around the world, and the reality is we make far more plastic than we can ever recycle.
What made my mission even bigger than waste was when I learned that plastics are made with more than 16,000 chemicals! My 8 years working on global public health kicked in. Because we shouldn't have to dissect an ingredient list to know something is safe for our babies, it should just be safe.
That's why I started soté baby: to rethink a baby's most-worn essential with more plant-derived materials and an honest account of every layer.
